MASSAGE

$175 per hour. Add $30 for travel.

Durations starting at 45 minutes up to 2 hours calculated at percentage of hourly rate.

MASSAGE

Mia is a certified massage therapist and practices Swedish, Acupressure, Reflexology, Medical Massage, Sports Massage, Cranial-Sacral, and Thai massage techniques.

Massage relaxes the whole person, giving the body a chance to heal. It can be very useful for those who wish to attain a higher level of fitness, and is ideal for clearing out stress and tension. Great for the elderly, the infant, and every stage in between. Massage can also help with digestive difficulties, arthritis, mending broken bones, impaired circulation, and fatigue. Deep tissue work cleanses the muscles removing toxic buildups that cause tightness and soreness.  It is often beneficial to have a massage before chiropractic work, as it softens tissues preparing the body for the adjustments to follow.

In a 45 minute massage, Mia can complete one of the following:

  • A neck and shoulder massage

  • A back massage

  • A leg massage

  • Specific injury work

  • Some reflexology work

  • A light postural reminder

In a one hour massage, Mia can complete:

  • A full body massage

  • Specific injury work tied into a relaxing massage for the rest of the body.

    • This additional time is often important as an injury is compensated for and often unconsciously stored in the whole body.

    • For example, just a sprained ankle may cause compensation in walking and standing that maintains the injury, slowing or preventing healing.

If you are looking for a very complete full body massage with detailed work on chronic tensions and injury, you would want to book 1.5 to 2 Hrs.

Rolfing / Structural Integration

Rolfing, also called Structural Integration, is a technique of deep tissue manipulation that aims to reduce muscular and physical tension and realign the body. Mia studied Rolfing and Structural Integration through the Rolf Institute and Guild for Structural Integration in Boulder/Colorado. She is a certified Rolfer and Structural Integrator and has completed continuing education courses in Cranial Sacral therapy and 4 handed Rolfing.

Ida Rolf developed Structural Integration. She created a “recipe” of ten hour long sessions influenced by the knowledge she acquired from many avenues of research, ranging from biochemistry and yoga to energetics. The series is a gourmet experience. The body’s superficial to deep layers of tissue are guided into organization until the whole being feels itself flow in the field of gravity. From this point on, (often this happens after the ten series has been completed), the body integrates itself with more and more levels of refinement, guided by the organizing influence of gravity. A wonderfully free and light feeling becomes a natural part of life. Gravity buoys up and strengthens the integrated structure. Energy can be built up and preserved in the balanced body, and the body becomes long and upright.

It is highly beneficial to include a core strengthening program such as Pilates while you are going through the Rolfing sessions. You may feel a lot of changes take place in your body with each of the Rolfing sessions, and so some doing some form of integrative strengthening work during this time is of great value. It helps to ground the “new” organization, and familiarize you with efficient movement. It can also help your body to hold and enhance the transformations in your body that often occur during a Rolfing series.

TRAINING

$135 per hour. Add $30 for travel.

Durations starting at 45 minutes up to 2 hours calculated at percentage of hourly rate.

When you arrive for training Mia will first ask about your physical history and what you are struggling with currently. She then will formulate a training program honed to your body and your needs. Mia’s training programs are multidisciplinary and combine aspects of floor barre, pilates, resistance training, and yoga. She often combines her training programs with bodywork to enhance the healing effects.

Floor Barre

In 2007, Mia went to New York to become certified as a Floor Barre teacher. She had been doing floor barre daily for over 2 years, She knew she had to pass on the secrets of this incredible technique that Zena Rommett  created.

Through this movement technique, Mia was able to:

  • Rehabilitate all of her chronic injuries

  • Refine her body in an extremely short amount of time

  • Retrain her spine to be elongated and flexible

  • Open her chest

  • Work her pelvic musculature so that it became sensitive, centered, and strong

  • Become so technically sound that she was free to dance with full expression and artistry

Zena Rommett dance foundation LTD was founded in 1968 to preserve promote and provide training in the Zena Rommett Floor-Barre Technique(R) for current and future generations of dancers athletes and the general public. Zena came up with the ingenious idea to have her students lie down on the floor and work the body in perfect alignment without the pull of gravity. Once these correct technical habits are committed to the dancers muscle memory, they stay with the dancers body when he or she stands up.

The Zena Rommett Floor-Barre Technique is a gentle and highly effective method for correcting and refining body alignment, building muscular strength and length, and increasing vitality and artistic expression.

Pilates

Pilates works on balancing and lengthening the body. The exercises awaken the intrinsic abdominal musculature from the inside, creating a lifting sensation. Breath and an inner concentration is an important part of every movement. As a result, the body lengthens, and long strong muscles are developed.

There are 16 fundamental exercises in Pilates, each of which bring awareness and strength to the core. Once these are mastered, the core is then challenged with extra arm and leg movements and bigger more vigorous trunk movements which improves the flexibility tone and readiness of the entire body.

After a very short time you will see a big difference in your structure. Your abdominals will be toned, you will walk taller and feel more efficient.
